About TPB

The Beginning

The Press Box was created in January 2005 by two then young and aspiring sports broadcasters from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They met at Simon Fraser University and quickly realized that both of their career goals were very similar. In attempt to gain experience and exposure in the broadcast journalism industry, Shaheed Devji and Nabil Karim decided to create “The Press Box” a sports podcast where they could showcase their talents and discuss their passion: sports.

Since 2005, The Press Box has grown into much more than just an online podcast by two up and coming sports broadcasters. Both Shaheed and Nabil are well on their way as broadcasters in the industry. Nabil currently works as a for Fox Soccer Report on Fox Sports World Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Shaheed is still in Vancouver doing play-by-play and finishing his broadcast training. But neither have not forgotten about The Press Box.

The Evolution

With it’s several contributors The Press Box from 2005 to 2009 has turned into The Press Box Media Network, an online news outlet that covers topics ranging from sports, to current events, to lifestyle pieces, etc. At The Press Box, you can listen to, view and read entertaining and honest opinions of what is going on around you and in your world.

The Press Box has expanded from just an online newsletter to cover events such as the Western Hockey League (interviews) and IHL (play-by-play) Finals, the 2008 Youth Darfur Conference (written and video stories), the 2008 Tampa Bay Lightning prospects training camp and has interviewed the likes of Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning), Scott Rintoul (TEAM 1040), Kyle Turris (Burnaby Express/Phoenix Coyotes), Milan Lucic (Boston Bruins/Vancouver Giants), and Lyle Richardson (SpectorsHockey.net).
